Even if AutoCAD is not be your chosen tool for design and drafting, it is the de facto common format for electronic drawing exchange, and if you’re a VectorWorks user, you need to be able to import AutoCAD drawings from other consultants – and export them back again.
The import operation per se is quite simple: go to File > Import > Import DXF/DWG, or better yet (for more control), Import Single DXF/DWG File… .
The trouble is getting the units and scales to match, so that dimensions in the imported file agree with those in the new VectorWorks file.
If you don’t know the units and scale used in the original file, you may find this involves a measure of trial-and-error, and occasionally may take longer than you think is worth.
